There seems to be a few misconceptions here.
Trading is not as easy as you think it is. First of all, unlike another high paying profession or two I could mention, there is competition, and it can be pretty stiff. Second, in order to make the record amounts people are citing, you need to have a freighter (usually), spend a lot of time and effort setting orders up and maintaining them and a lot of cash to back it up. A freighter is worth more than most combat ships even with a good setup, and a hell of a lot more vulnerable.
Also, even with the post-DT resets, no-one was frozen out of the NPC trade market. Trading is more a test of willpower (not the in-game attribute) and planning than cash. If someone wanted too, they could still make money trading NPC goods even if they werenĘt online around downtime, and mess with the big boys who are. Yes, cash really helps, but without the willpower to back it up, itĘs useless.
For the record, I was making roughly the same amount per hour that the level 4 mission runners in my corp were.
In regards to the hotfix, while I genuinely donĘt believe that anyone was seriously disadvantaged past their own thinking by the post-DT resets, I still have to agree that randomising that was a good move. As for MephystoĘs claim that there should be the same amount of profit potential in the market as there was before, I just donĘt see it. For that to be the case the prices would have to be reaching the extremes once per day and I have just not seen that happen despite watching the market very closely. In fact, as of 15:00 GMT yesterday, prices that were low right after the hotfix still hadnĘt reached their max and I am 99% certain that there has been no trading going on at the lower prices.
So there has been a reduction in the profitability of trading. Was it warranted? I donĘt know, I donĘt have access to all the data. All I know is that I will most likely continue trading as RL circumstances dictate it for now, but for the amount of time, effort, risk and money I was putting in, the reward seemed about right.
